- If you are depressed, you are living in the past.
- If you are anxious, you are living in the future.
- If you are at peace, you are living in the present.
— Lao Tzu
As we know, depression cannot be taken away quickly or easily. Sadness is possible to get past quickly, but not depression. Depression is a dark pit of nothingness, filled with aches , pains , regret and guilt.
Recovery from depression has to be done across many fronts at once. These are 9 best ways to deal with depressions and anxiety. I’ve done all these things, but not all in one day. If you insist to use these treatments for a period of time, you can overcome anxiety and depreesion.
When you are depressed or half-hearted, the last thing you likely want to do is to get up and go for a run. But did you know after only a few minutes of running, your brain will start to secrete hormones that naturally improve your mood! In fact, simply running can more rapidly treat any kind of dullness and depression in a sustainable and healthy way than any pill.”
It will keep you healthy, positive and happy. What else do you need?
2, Aromatherapy .
In a 2014 study published in the journal Biomedical Research International, it was shown that a four-week aromatherapy program for older persons with chronic pain was effective in reducing levels of depression, anxiety, and stress.
Aromatherapy for anxiety involves the use of essential oils taken from plant sources such as flowers, leaves, seeds, fruits, and roots. When these oils are inhaled or absorbed through the skin, there are resulting physiological effects.
How to use aromatherapy to overcome depression and anxiety? You can use an oil diffuser in your house. As we know, oil diffuser is also and humidifier. It’s also effective to improve our health and sleep. The following is the oil diffuser I’m using in my house. You can click the picture to check the details.
3, Stop wandering / Stop overthinking.
Life is about now! Even though we read that a lot, we are always thinking about everything, specially the “what if….”. After a breakup is ok to think a little about what you have done wrong and learn from it. But that’s it. What you can do to keep your mind busy is to focus on what you need to do. You need to study, you sit and study. You may wander a little, then you train your mind to get back to study. It’s better not to listen to music when you walk to your job, you can listen to podcasts. It’s much better. You need to pay attention, so your mind is on the subject being discussed. Play video games, specially games that needs focus. For example, I love Fifa, but when depressed I felt much better playing Call of Duty, because my mind can’t think about anything else besides where will the bullet come from.
4, Get a new hobby.
Start something new. When I was depressed,I started a blog about statistics, even though I’m finishing my master in Economics and I work a lot, I always find time for my blog, and it’s so rewarding! It’s been 8 months and I have already some regular visitors, and I know will get even better.
5, Try to make small challenges.
This is a different trick that helped me recently. There is no scientific research (I think!) to support this, but it’s helping me a lot lately. Make some small healthy weekly challenges to yourself. It may be meditate every day 7 days in a row, or perhaps spending 7 days without red meat or soda, 7 days in a row walking to work. I don’t know, just think about some things that will help you and do it. These actions affects you in many ways. You start to have a purpose to finish every day, you will feel better to do something that helps you get healthier, you will see that you are capable of making changes and you will feel good for accomplishing something. This is helping me a lot! Try it!
6, Stop feeling sorry for yourself.
Certain things had happened to you through you life which you had no control over. But there are certain choices you can make which will lead you to where you are. And you have to take responsibility for that.
7, You could not change your past but you could change your present.
You could not change what happened to you or what you had done. But every action that you would do henceforth was completely your choice. You could not change the past, but you have to take control of your present.
8, Perhaps, most importantly, you have to learn how to have gratitude.
Not as a weighty idea, not for anyone else, but simply for my own self. Because it helped me concentrate on the good things in my life, on seeing what I had, instead, of what I did not.
9, Saying affirmations.
Affirmations should be stated in the positive present tense towards the thing you want. “I am pleasant in all my interactions today” is better than “I don’t want to be a jerk today”. Make the statement a stretch, but a believable stretch. If you hate your body your affirmation may start out as “I have a body” which is towards your goal of loving your body, but it’s a stretch from “I hate my body”.
It may be very difficult at first to implement these changes at first. You need to keep trying.
But with time, you will be learnt how to practice self-control, and not give in.
And finally one day, you will start looking and feeling healthier than you ever was. And that will make you want to take better care of yourself.
